We get call outs all the time for either pre-inspection or for general inspection looking for termites. That is fine for those that we write reports for saying that there are “no termites” that is all that the owner wants to see on the report for peace of mind and especially if they are selling the property.
There are times though that we find termites and we inform the customer that there are live termites in their property.
TERMITES FOUND – WHAT NEXT? – THE CHASE OUT
We discuss the plan in detail of what needs to happen first including discussing the barrier and if there are live termites we chase them out first.
We do this with either Termidor foam or we use a dust where we treat the termites and as they are social insects that they rub up against each other and the dust is transferred from one termite to the other killing all the termites as they make their way back to the nest.
We recently had a client that did not want the barrier put down and only wanted the live termites chased out that was nearly 12 months ago this week we were called back and the woman now wants the barrier put in but she has had builders in who are replacing gyprock and beams as the termites had returned again.
The builders cost for replacement was $80K and she needs to pay this out of her own pocket as it’s not covered by insurance. For the cost of the barrier seems small in comparison to the damage that termites can do.
WHAT WE RECOMMEND
We use mainly chemical barriers as this gives the owner $2M 8 year warranty against the termites returning NO other treatment will give this assurance. We recommend that either a visual or thermal imaging be performed annually to protect your property. Please call our team on 0407 065 413
