A1 Pest Control Canberra Termite Inspection, Termite Barriers – Queanbeyan

A1 Pest Control Canberra experts at termite inspection, termite barriers and all general pests in Canberra, Queanbeyan and surrounding areas.

The sprawl of both Canberra and Queanbeyan nearly has both cities touching toe to toe.  Our team at A1 are over the border to Queanbeyan NSW daily and have a number of our staff life in the NSW border town.

As the bush capital has seen a huge increase in the number of properties that termites have attacked it is time to be proactive and to be more vigilant with termite inspections.

The inspections should be done on an annual basis as part of your maintenance plan. There are 2 types of inspections that are done:

1: Visual inspection requiring the technician to look for physical signs with his knocking tool and moisture meter and visual signs of sawdust and mud tracks providing that he can gain access to roof voids and underneath the property.

2: Thermal imaging and T3i cameras can pick up body heat, moisture and movement. The technology used can also see in behind walls for leaking plumbing issues and some electrical faults. Space restriction is not a problem as the operator will just need to point the instrument at the inspected area and get his reading.

For either of these inspections please call our team on 0407 065 413

HINTS AND TIPS TERMITE PROTECTION

Reduce the risk of a termite infestation in your home:

• Repair any water leaks and moisture issues. Water-damaged walls, leaks in roofs, bathrooms and sink areas create favorable conditions for termites to flourish.

• Clean gutters and repair downspouts. Keep gutters clear and free-flowing to avoid clogs which may eventually lead to water damage.

• Drain water away from exterior walls and foundation. Ensure all drain lines, such as air conditioner drainage lines, release water at least 30.48 cm or 12 inches away from the foundation.

• Trim back shrubs and landscape plants from exterior walls. Shrubs and plants can trap moisture, which is critical for termite survival. Over-grown plants can provide a hidden avenue for termites and prevent thorough visual inspection.

• Keep ground cover below the bottom of the exterior siding. Ground cover, such as mulch and pine straw, that has built up over the bottom of wall coverings, provide a hidden avenue for termites. Ground cover should be at least 15.24cm or 6 inches below the bottom of exterior wall coverings.

• Monitor irrigation systems. Ensure sprinklers are adjusted properly to spray away from foundation and walls.

Ensure you have a comprehensive termite inspection by a professional termite company. At A1 Pest Control Canberra, our inspections can use the state of the art thermal imaging to see pests before they can do damage.

FREE Pest Control Tips – Canberra Call 0407 065 413

A1 Pest Control Canberra takes pride in doing a little extra for their customers which comes as a nice surprise for customers that have not used our services before.

I have noticed not just with the pest control industry but services that I have hired to do the odd jobs around the home or have something fixed the tradesman will first give you a 4-5 hour window that they may come around to do the job.

This is highly impractical for those that will need to take a half day off from their job and sit and wait for the tradesman, many times though there is no courtesy call to even say “I will be there in 30 minutes!” More often and not you need to cool your heels and just wait for them to turn up.

When they eventually do turn up one eye is on the clock the other on the job that they are doing. Sound familiar?

When pest control is required and using larger franchise companies they too also run the same way and I suppose when comparing ourselves as a family owned and operated pest control company I think we can take a bow.

Pest Control Tips will help you by:

  • Better preparing you with tips before we arrive.
  • Ensuring that we know if you have pets so we can advise you what to do on the day of the treatment.
  • Educating you on the pest problem that you have.
  • Tips to get more for your money after we have gone.

If you have any general pest problems or need a termite inspection please reach out for pest control tips when booking in your treatment with A1 Pest Control Canberra.

WHAT IS THAT SMELL??? ITS NOT GOING AWAY – PHEW!

At times there are baits put down in your roof as that is where you have heard the scratching going on and you think “great we got rid of them” but over the days there is a smell that seems to be getting stronger and you can’t find where it is coming from.

After checking the fridge for something that maybe off in the darkest corners and throwing a few containers out that were forgotten and now growing a new life form but now know that the smell is getting worse it could possibly be a dead rodent!!!

There is nothing worse than decaying rats or mice the smell just won’t go away and if in summer you will have flys and maggots on the body as well – this is not definitely something for anyone with a weak stomach!

ODOUR BAGS

We can solve your problem as we will removed the bodies of the dead rodent and replace with an odour bag. These bags DO NOT MASK the odour like many products our bags absorb the odour.

Call Bob 0407 065 413 we will fix this problem and any other pest problems for domestic and commercial properties – quickly, efficiently and safely.

RAT AND MICE PEST CONTROL – Canberra

http://a1pestcontrolcanbera.com.au/

Hearing scratching or gnawing at night in your roof? Many people will ignore and put up with a little occasional scratching and a little bit of scurrying around and just hope that the noise will just go away.

Sometimes it does and whatever found its way into your roof or wall cavities has found the way out. BUT the person that is forgiving for one nights lost sleep is not so forgiving for several nights of sleep that is interrupted.

We get called for people thinking the noise is coming from possums but on identifying the droppings we can confirm that in some cases its bush rats and I can let you know that they will be putting down roots to make your roof their new home where they will raise their babies and then you WILL have a problem.

SPIDERS KEEPS A WOMAN HOSTAGE IN DUFFY!

http://a1pestcontrolcanberra.com.au

As strange as it seems we often get people that are terrified or allergic to spiders we took a call at the start of the week from a woman in Duffy that was literally inside her home as a hostage and too scared to venture past her front door for fear that it would jump on her.

Bob sent the team out so she would be spider free and did a general pest spray in and around the house.

What many people do not realise is that many spiders like bushes and trees or they make their web around the guttering or roof line. When a pest treatment is done many people would run out with the broom and get rid of the web….WRONG

LEAVE a WEBS up for at least 3-4 weeks as they contain residue from the treatment and it will keep on killing the spiders. Spiders are blown in by the wind and are pretty much lazy and do not always spin another web if they see a web not being used they will then move in.

FACT did you know that some spiders can have as many as 100 baby spiders!!! Do the math if you have many spiders you have a BIG problem.

This will make you squirm…

“TERMITE PEST CONTROL CANBERRA 3 TIMES LUCKY!”…

I have been telling a few horror stories of what has happened when property owners do not have regular termite inspections here is another story of 3 strikes and your out – please read on.

Bob and the team were called out to O’Connor (Nth Canberra) and its not the first time that we have found live termites in their home but the owner thought that by us chasing the termites out that would be enough to get rid of his problem – wrong!

The termites had attacked the house in the opposite direction and again we mentioned the termite barrier to be installed asap to protect the house from further invasion but we got “I will think about and give you a call”

3 months now past and we got another call same address HELP the termites have been found in another area of the home and “we want them GONE for good when can you do the job!”

Finally, common sense prevailed and not we are installing a chemical barrier with 8 year 2 million dollar assurance that the termites WILL NOT be back!

We have worked out that the damage done the termite barrier would of saved them money if they got it done the first time before any further damage was done.

A TERMITE INSPECTION WOULD OF SAVED THIS HOUSE….

http://a1pestcontrolcanberra.com.au

My brother Bruce Gow has a pest control company in Sydney and today he sent me a house in Baulkham Hills just around the corner from his own home in Bella Vista that was eaten away by termites.

The damage was so severe that the whole house needed to be demolished and the sad fact is that this is NOT COVERED by insurance!

For a small cost of an annual termite inspection the termite problem could of been picked up 12 months earlier, treated and a chemical barrier installed and this would of saved the property.

The favourite food of the termite is wood and we live in the bush capital and we are seeing more termite activity especially from those renovating, replacing fences, in stumps that were not grinded in pipes that were leaking behind the walls and the owners were not aware.

Get thermal imaging to detect your property before termites do damage. Its well worth the cost of an annual inspection against paying for a new property that was eaten away with NO insurance to cover the damage.

Canberra Pest Control Termite Inspections & Barriers

https://a1pestcontrolcanberra.com.au

Everyone has heard that a man’s home is his castle right?
What about if the castle comes under attack silently without you even suspecting there was a problem!

Canberra does not get the name bush capital for nothing its surrounded by bush termites favourite food but as Canberra expands the trees are cleared for housing the termites go looking for more wood yes your castle!

PREVENTION IS CHEAPER THAN CURE!

An annual inspection is what is needed to inspect your property in either 2 ways:
– visual inspection – looks for evidence that they are already there by tapping and using a moisture guage
– thermal image inspection – finds termites BEFORE they do damage uncovering termite movement, moisture, body heat & underlying house faults eg leaking behind walls etc

IF WE FIND TERMITES HERE IS WHAT HAPPENS

Discuss and show you where the termites are and what process
is needed to combat the problem and cost involved.
– we then chase the termites out so they travel back to the
nest to kill the other termites
– we install chemical termite barrier which has 8 yrs 2M dollar assurance that the termites are gone for good.

Discovers 9 Queen Termites

A1 Pest Control Canberra Discovers 9 Queen Termites!
http://needava.com

Today we sent the team out to Kambah for a termite inspection on a tree that was cut down last year and the stump had been decorated with gnomes.

We found the colony and in the royal chamber there were 9 Queen Termites. This will mean after the chase out we will be doing a barrier around the house to protect the home from the termites.

While the inspection was taking place the woman next door is also wanting a termite inspection. A lot of our days lately are on termites and advising courses of action to take.

FACTS ABOUT TERMITES.

1) there is only 1 Queen termite who’s main purpose is to lay up to approx 30,000 eggs per day! The other 8 we found today are to ensure the colony lives on should something happen to the Queen.

2) a Queen & King will only fly once and that is to find a place to start a new colony and then will shed their wings and never fly again.

3) a Queen termite can live up to 50 years of age in her lifetime lay 165 million eggs. The worker termites only live around a year but are easily replaced by the Queen.

4) worker termites are there to feed the Queen and find food sources for themselves.

5) The only way to successfully kill a termite colony is by killing the queen. She never leaves her chambers you have to find a way of getting to her.

Killing all the workers is not enough as she can quickly replace them.

A1 Pest Control Canberra – Advanced Termite Inspections

A1 Pest Control Canberra is a family owned business that was founded by Jenny Jordan and Bob Waters in November 2011. Pest Control is in their veins as Jenny’s brother Bruce Gow has worked in the business for over 35 years!

Since the beginning Bob has used his background in customer service that has surpassed his client’s expectations with being able to book an appointment at the time the client wants but also has his staff deliver education on how to prevent insects and pest from returning to how to get the most out of your treatments.

Jenny and Bob started humbly and the staff were and still are family members “until recently due to the expansion of the company we ran out of family members” says Bob!
Luckily also Jenny Jordan has a marketing background and is the person how promotes the company.

Bob saw the need for more thorough Termite Inspection instead of using the usual visual methods of tapping and evidence of termite activity which really is not inclusive since access may not be possible due to weather conditions or the size of the entry area which would prevent inspection. Bob seeing the benefit of thermal imagining invested heavily in education and accreditation of Thermal Imaging.

Bob states that using the imaging technology gives him the edge over his competitors as it picks up not only body heat from the termites it also picks up moisture and maintenance problems for the home owner long before that it is seen by visual means. This saves the home owner thousands of dollars by treating areas before they become a problem.

With Bob’s attention to detail and a mass of satisfied repeat customers A1 pest control  Canberra continues to be in demand for residential, commercial and government contracts like DHA (Defence Force Housing) Schools, Construction, Real Estate agencies

A1 Pest Control Canberra uses only environmentally pet and family safe chemical treatments

TERMITES IN CANBERRA – GET A TERMITE INSPECTION

Over these last 2 weeks we have been getting more call outs for termites and that is a good thing as no longer people are chancing it with a visual image and are insisting on thermal imagery for more accurate reports.

Let’s face it, the human eye can not see inside beams and posts and many times pest control managers can not get on top of the roof due to wet weather or hard to crawl in spaces and they write this on their reports. BUT tell me how do you know that the very spots that were not checked did not contain the termites you wanted to discover before they did damage.

You see with thermal image camera it also can pick up moisture which is a food source for the termite and this could save you as a intended buyer to see this as a plumbing problem before you sign on the dotted line.

Although Bob and his team do visual and thermal imagery inspections thermal is by far the more thorough of the 2:
– detects body heat of the termite
– movement
– moisture within walls and your roof.

Please call Bob 0407 065 413 for all your pest inspections.

Termite Expert

Termite ExpertAre you confident that the Pest Control “Expert” is really an expert in the field of termite control?

A responsible homeowner will have their home inspected for termites periodically and on average one in every three homeowners will have to call a professional to deal with an infestation of termites in their home.

Don’t be fooled in believing that every pest controller is a trained termite control expert, and you want to make sure because these  pests can cost you thousands of dollars of damage if not dealt with properly.

Invest the few minutes that it will take to confirm that you are working with a specialist that is qualified to deal with termite control.  You might be asking, what is the difference between a pest controller and a termite expert.

In Canberra and NSW, a licensed pest controller only just has to complete an entry level course – this course does not qualify the student to be a specialist.  They will be trained to control ants, spiders, cockroaches, but will not be able to perform termite inspections and termite treatment.

A second course, “Termite and Timber Pest Management”  (PRM40209 Certificate IV in Asset Maintenance) will be required to provide the knowledge that the technician will required to have in order to deal with termites.  Keep in mind that nothing replaces experience and quality of work for someone to become an expert that you can trust.

To achieve accreditation at the Certificate IV level, the candidate must be able to demonstrate a competency in all of the 15 core units, plus the 7 extra elective units (which is a total of 22 units).  It is sad that some pest control firms do not enforce at their technicians have these professional credits.

TAFE Accreditation

Core units

  • PRMCMN302A Respond to client inquiries and complaints
  • BSBSMB402A Plan small business finances

The most modern and up-to-date termite detection equipment (such as thermal imaging cameras) can be costly and some firms will not invest in the latest technology to give you the best service and results possible.

Since termites are discreet and difficult to view, the best equipment is necessary to scan the walls in your home for termite activity.  Does expensive equipment make for a qualified termite expert?  Not necessarily.  Experience and diligence must also be considered when hiring your termite expert.

A few questions will help you choose a termite specialist in Canberra and surrounding areas:

  1.  Ask the pest controller of their schooling and qualifications, and if they have Certificate IV in Pest Management
  2. Inquire about the type of equipment that will be used to search for termite activity in and around your home.  Some of the most modern equipment today will involve a Termatrac microwave device and equipment specializing in moisture detection.
  3. Also, ask your potential expert where and how they seek out termites and their colonies.  This will give you a sense of how thorough, diligent and professional they are.

IMAG0188-1024x61336Treatment of termites is not inexpensive, so it really pays off to ensure that you hire a qualified and experienced termite controller to do your home inspections, treatments, and provide expert advice on how to protect your property from any infestations in the future.

Bob of A1 Pest Control has more than 30 years’ experience in the Pest Control Industry.  He currently holds Certificate IV in Asset Maintenance (Pest Management), and holds qualifications in the special treatments of annoying pests, including Advanced Termite Control.

Here are 5 good reasons why you may want to deal with our firm:

  1. You will receive knowledgeable information about your situation or pest management problem
  2. No pushy sales persons forcing you into a treatment you don’t want
  3. We only use the safest low or non-toxic treatments that are pet and child friendly
  4. Your Termite Inspection will only be carried out with insured, accredited technicians.
  5. We carry the latest thermal imaging camera and tracking tools, ensuring that you get the very best and most accurate inspection in the pest industry.

Termite Evidence

Termite evidence

Termite EvidenceTermite evidence is visible to the naked eye, but by the time the human eye detects damage, the damage runs much deeper than you can see.

Termites start their dining feast of wood from deep inside the wood, undercover and out of sight.  The more educated you are on termite activity, the quicker you can have the problem treated.

Ways to determine Termite evidence :

As you begin your search for termites here are some early clues that termites have invaded your space which can include:

Paint discoloration or blistering, something that looks like water damage, can possibly be on indicator that termites are present.  Where  termites evidence, there is moisture because termite saliva is used when they eat and also to create the tunnels they use for travelling safely.

  1. Wood that has the look of a honeycomb has definitely been eaten and invaded by termites.
  2. A good place to begin looking for termites is anywhere that water damage has occurred due to a leak.  Termites are attracted to moist wood.  Storerooms and cupboards that are not used very often will be other places that will need to be inspected.

Check outside your home and in the garden for further evidence.  Fence posts made of wood are an ideal spot for termites to feast as are the base of trees, wood piles and tree stumps.  It will be difficult to identify termite activity outside your home, but you want to look for very small mud tubes (also called “leads”) which are erected by termites as a way to travel safely.  These “leads” will start from the ground and will lead to any tiny crack in the foundation of your home.

Termite EvidenceThere is no reason to panic if you find evidence of a termite invasion, and don’t see any of these destructive pests.  It could be old damage and the remaining evidence was not destroyed or removed.  I would not want to make that assumption, and since there has been evidence that termites have been or are still close to your home and property, a call to your professional pest controller would be in order at A1 Pest Control.

There is no price tag on your “peace of mind”, call an expert who can determine if termite evidence in the home still exists, and uses state of the art equipment to inspect and get rid of them forever.

Bob 0407 065 413 to give you professional pest control advice.
